From Changes' inception, R. N. Taylor and Nicholas Tesluk have woven bardic tales of gallantry, chivalry and of larger-than-life legendary and mythical heroes. They've sung of new love, love unrequited and love lost. They've written songs painting sonic imagery foretelling a dark apocalyptic future, which later came to pass while currently prophesying a society in the seminal stages of an even darker fate.
With their new album, Lament, they turn their gaze inward, to their own personal apocalypses, stemming from their long marriages ending in dismal dissolution. They tell of their dark, oppressive inner-world that sought to drive them beyond the brink of despair. Only by being able to immerse themselves in their art and create works expressing these sorrows would they be able to maintain their sanity. Lament reaches out to all who've had their lives disrupted by modern societal partners going through mid-life crises, becoming antagonistic strangers to their families overnight.
The song entitled "The Invisible Man" tells a tale based on H. G. Wells' novel with a personal twist. In their song "Emily", the historical figure of poetess Emily Dickinson comes to life. The "Mountains of Sorrow (Remix)", is an instrumental song enhanced by the deft arrangement, musicians and singers of Der Blutharsch with a voice-over by R. N. Taylor of his heart-rending lyric poetry.
Also included, new versions of three of Changes' earlier works; "The Saddest Thing", "Sweet Eve" and "Memorabilia" as these songs merged well with the album's concept. Lament is sixty-four minutes in length with thirteen tracks.
Comes in nice Digipak with a sixteen page liner booklet.

Three years have passed since Sturmpercht released their cult-album „"Geister im Waldgebirg"“. now the masters of ALPINE FOLK are back with their new album "„Schattenlieder - eine kleine Nachtmusik für Waldteufel und Berggeister“. The album features 20 diverse and unique songs full of alpine mystic, heathen legends and tales about strange fairies and pagan rites. "“Schattenlieder”" entrains you into deep forests, arcane mountains and dark chasms and guides you to hidden places in the depth of the central European forests, where hunters meet strange creatures from dusk til dawn. The atmosphere of the album varies between gnarled songs about creepy fairies, catchy folk hymns and dark songs about the hard life in high alpine regoins. The lyrics deal with alpine myths, forest tales and hunter sagas. “Schattenlieder” is the perfect "soundtrack" for misty autumn evenings as well as for dark winter nights. The album features a large variety of instruments and sounds: obscure, strange, folky, psychedelic, but always original and weird, in Sturmpercht's very unique way. “Schattenlieder” is a completely unpredictable album - each track is a "standalone", but contributes to the overall ambience of this alpine folk masterpiece and in the end the album creates a round, whole atmosphere. With almost 80 minutes of scary/dreamy folk songs, the album definitely sets a new benchmark within the Alpine Folk genre. On "Schattenlieder" Sturmpercht proudly introduce their new band-member: Waldwuudz alias cz of Vinterriket / Atomtrakt / Nebelkorona / Dannagoischd / Battle Dagorath... Amorphous ambient time worlds; ever shifting and altogether mesmeric.
The brilliant New Zealand sound sculptor Abby Helasdottir (aka Gydja) has crafted a complex lifeworld on Machina Mundi. As Abby describes "the original idea was based around Newton's clockwork universe." The listening experience brings to mind vast images of an entire floating planet-- translucent like a post-industrial snowglobe--revealing intricate machines, plant life, and weather systems moving apart, together, in a strange otherworldly ballet.
Abby Helasdottir has been creating music since 1995 under the name Gydja (an Old Norse word for priestess). Initially, the aim of the project was to create music that could be used for magickal and shamanic purposes. Some of the earliest ideas involved using field recordings, and basing whole pieces on these sounds in a largely unprocessed way. This is still a concern of Gydja, but with more emphasis now being placed on abstracting these sounds so that, whilst they retain a sense of their original source, they become something else entirely.
The current style of Gydja differs from the initial intentions of the project, with music of both a mundane and magickal nature being created. And whilst the music is usually linear and could be defined as a soundscape, it is also not necessarily always dark ambient in style, embracing electro-acoustic and experimental techniques. Works designed specifically for magickal use sit alongside explorations of sound for sound's sake; and in a third tier, some exploration of sound contain magickal themes, even if there is no practical magickal application intended.
The magickal side of Gydja often takes the form of dark ambient, and features in works such as Rokkrsong, and Liber Babalon (2001). The two disc Liber Babalon depicts a journey that begins with the birth of Babalon, explores the mysteries of the Gnostic text Thunder, Perfect Mind, travels through the aethyrs of Enochian magick, and ultimately, arrives at the throne of Babalon. The meditative intent of Liber Babalon is repeated in Cold Seed (2002), a single 79 minute of drifting cold ambience, created to assist meditations on the rune of Hagalaz.At the intersection between magick and music, is a work like Rivers… (2002), in which the theme is a magickal one (the rivers that act as boundaries between worlds), but the music is more of a microscopic investigation of sound itself. Using techniques such as granular synthesis, samples of water and speech were broken down and then built up again into compositions of electronic tones and swashes.
In addition to her work as Gydja, Abby is also involved with the performance art project Torture By Roses (Sebastian-Salome CD available from Mediatrix Publishing), and the militant industrial formation Clear Stream Temple (XVI CD on Cold Spring Records)

"Sterbender Satyr" od ORPLID je úspěšnou mozaikou řeči, hudby a předložených obrazů v podobné úpravě jako na jejich předešlých vydáních. Nehledě na téměř čisté akustické podání písní, opřené hlavně o kytaru, se však Frank Machau a Uwe Nolte zaměřují větší měrou na více éterické zvukové plochy.

Čas utíká rychle, zdá se to jako včera, když jsem poprvé uslyšel debutové album Orplid a už jsou tu se čtvrtým, jenom dva a půl roku po “Sterbender Satyr”. A znějí daleko apokalyptičtěji, zlověstněji, temněji a tajemněji.
“Greifenherz” je zřejmě nejchladnější a nejtvrdší album Orplid, přesto se opírá o hluboké melodie, které mají typický zvuk kapely, tentokrát je tu nadto jistá forma tichého emocionálního násilí skrytého v hudbě, násilí, jež posune posluchače do výšin s každým novým poslechem alba. Je lehce militaristické, s vásnivým přednesem Sandry Finkové, který je požehnáním hudbě Orplid na skladbách “Totenesche” a “Traum Von Blashyrkh”. Je to touha slyšet nahrávku po každém poslechu opět znovu.
“Traum Von Blashyrkh” je věnována nesmrtelným norským černým metalistům. Tahle hudba vás žene do mystéria a je trochu chladná, ale přitažlivá a Orplid jsou na tomto albu výsostní.

The current style of Gydja differs from the initial intentions of the project, with music of both a mundane and magickal nature being created. And whilst the music is usually linear and could be defined as a soundscape, it is also not necessarily always dark ambient in style, embracing electro-acoustic and experimental techniques.
Consisting of two long tracks and clocking at about fifty minutes, "Helchemy" is Gydja's latest full-lenght work at the time of writing, and we're happiest to release it as part of the Afe catalogue.
The album title is a portmanteau combining the name of Hela, Germanic goddess of the dead, and the art of alchemy. As such, it considers the way in which imagery associated with alchemy can be related to Hela, particularly the motif of a venomous black toad that is found in many alchemical tracts.
Beginning with synthesized soft atmospheres, the opening "The Spirit of the Earth With Venom Intoxicate" gains an aquatic feeling in its first movement. Pads are paired with ring-modulated effects and then the music evolves into a more mysterious cauldron filled with ritual percussions and bells. A gentle melody - resembling a plucked guitar or another string instrument - emerges for a while in the middle section before disappearing in synth bubbles. A flute theme is briefly introduced and then reappears later as the track is constantly transformed until reaching its final stage.
"The Black Sea, the Black Lune, the Black Soll" starts in a simple percussive way with various bell-like sounds layed on synth flows and more unclear background microevents. Slightly distorted elements are added to the mix and the music seems to get aggressive for a while, before returning to a more reassuring mood. Water samples, field-recordings and other sounds resembling animal activities guide the listener through another tranformational process. Music gets darken as percussions return and more sound effects create a disquieting atmosphere. A human voice suddendly appear to introduce the last movement, a more minimal ending filled with morbid synth lines and assorted percussive sounds.
As an album concept, "Helchemy" is something that the author has explored for several years, creating a version of the release based on cassette experiments in the late nineties. Nothing of this version appears in the current incarnation, but the themes which first initiated the idea are there.
"Helchemy" comes in a beautiful and inspired artwork created by Gydja herself.
