Italy has proved to be a stronghold for music that blend gothic ethereal moods with medieval romanticism. After Ataraxia and Gothica, Cold Meat Industry sidelabel Cruel Moon have found another exponent of this style in Nova, though their swirling music refuses to let itself be defined by such loose categorization. A teamwork between Romeo Cosser and Chiara Ferrari, Nova have existed since 1997 and already earned several prizes for originality and innovation in national music contests. Their sound sees an interlacement between synths and voice: melancholic electronics and ethnic/tribal percussion paints an emotional backdrop on which lyrics laden with influences from past aesthetical movements such as existentialism, symbolism and the decadents are applied. Nova have good reasons for their ambiguous name, seeing as their style represents something new - "nova" in Italian - to which can be added that this CD will see them rise from local obscurity to international stardom - like an exploding supernova! Album je inspirováno magickou, symbolickou a mystickou povahou zahrad - jako byly visuté zahrady Babylonu, arabské zahrady, středověké HORTUS CONCLUSUM, zenová zahrada a anglické romantické zahrady. Zahrady byly často prezentovány jako universální dveře ke kříži a touto dimenzí se dalo vstoupit do mýtu a snu.

Hudba je bohatá na nuance; klasické a flamenco kytary, romantická piana, mnoho atmosférických kláves, vznešené sonáty, chóry a vokál Francescy se spoustou východních i klasických perkusí od darbouky po bendhir, rámové bubny, tympány, ud, činely a zvonky.

Po třech albech a dvou singlech se říkalo, že Arcana se opakuje a tady přichází pádná odpověď Petera Pettersona, muzikanta této kapely, se svým vlastním projektem Sophia (v němž mu asistoval Per Ahlund). Album bez názvu, první, jež vydal pod tímto jménem, prezentuje 2 akty, dlouhý Sigillum Militium (napsáno speciálně pro živá vystoupení a rozdělený do 9 částí), a Adeptus / Last Movement.
Sigillum Militium je cyklus, počátek a konec opepřený tvrdými perkusemi, epické středověké melodie a temně zastřený hlas v samplech, což je element, který jste u Arcany slyšet nemohli. Pak se vyvíjí, skladbu za skladbou, až do mnohem bombastičtější a militaristické hudby, s rytmem hlubokých a tvrdých bicí a symfonickým aranžmá. Koneckonců hudby Sophia může být srovnávána s Arcanou, neboť základní zvuky jsou více nebo méně pořád stejné (stejné echo u bicích, dobré syntezátory a středověké nástroje a epické melodie). Ovšem inovací u Sophie je přítomnost temných, mnohem industriálnějších zvuků v pozadí, které se zdají být úplně inspirovány méně neo-klasickými skupinami z Cold Meat Industry, stejně jako nízko posazený nasamplovaný hlas a absence slavného ženského hlasu typického pro Arcana.
Konečně poslední skladba, Adeptus / Last Movement je tišší, s mnohem vzdálenějšími bicími a opakující se melodií hranou zvony. Tady jsou blíže Archon Satani nebo dokonce prvnímu albu Ordo Equilibrio.

Vzhledem k militaristické orientaci hudby Sophie, může toto CD srovnáváno s Der Blutarsch nebo Blood Axis, na druhé straně bych je ale spíše srovnával s The Protagonist a Sephiroth.

One of the very first outbursts on CMI were In Slaughter Natives, and still to this day they are one of the most wellknown and respected acts on the label. Since the birth of J. Havukainen's brain-child in 1988, the accumulated brilliance and excitement over each release have far surpassed what any other band or man can accomplish during a lifetime. The bombastic classical agony and infernal pleasures have been immensely influential, and many are the artist in this genre that owes a great deal to In Slaughter Natives. This is music gone cataclysmic, the soundtrack of the apocalypse, the mad laughter of the heretic burned at the stake. Neviditelné duchovní rány člověka se právě proto zdají být věčným zdrojem inspirace. Vytváří silnou hudební strunu vnitřních vizí, které jsou vždy zajímavé a obdivuhodné. Určitě jsou tu a tam podobné dílu na CD Herbstwerk z minulého roku, nyní ovšem přestavující širší a solidnější spektrum a totalně odlišný řístup. The seduction of madness nás naladí na strašlivý a obskurní pohled do světa mánií. Explosivní bicí, dekompozice trumpet a éterické hymny naplňují tento vířící vír swirling do sytosti. We who thought we saw the last breath of Arcana, as the previous offering "...The last embrace" came out, were all wrong! Mathias Josefson has been musically active since the beginning of the nineties under different names. In 1999 Moljebka Pvlse was put to life, much due to the contribution on the CMI compilation "Esthetiks Of Cruelty". The first CD, "Koan", on which loops and guitar manipulations were utilized came in 2000. During the autumn the same year he made an extensive US tour with Mikael Stavöstrand and Brent Gutzeit. The music on "Sadalmelik" is made out of both acoustic and electronic equipment and sometimes computer-generated sounds. Imagine someone delicately rolling out a dough comprising both the subtler moments of Maëror Tri and the hypnotic ambience of mid-eighties Lustmord, incorporating low frequency factory sounds and you might come close to this monotonous drone-party. Billowy and chilling like the autumn wind, yet warm and meditative. Revel with immense pleasure, as this dough is greatly bestowed care upon and surely right on the spot for the ambient gourmées.

Ze zalesněných odlehlých míst severního Švédska pochází formace známá jako Heid, která povstala s půlnočním sluncem před 5 lety. Mimořádné debutové album Submitting To the Uprush Of the Unconscious na německém labelu Bastet si vysloužilo pozornost s ohledem na švédskou tradici - jde o křížence mezi Raison d'Etre a In Slaughter Natives --- Heid neustále hovoří jedinečným hlasem, s výrazným nordickým vyjadřováním resonujícím majestátností jejich domova: hluboké lesy, bezedná jezera, pěnící proudy, a vzdálené kvílení posledních predátorů. Srdcem Heid je Tolufim a Kristian Olsson, dále je augmentují schopnosti Petera "Parasoleil" Lindahla a Stefana Östlunda, jež dohromady vytvářejí temný zvuk, který jim vydobyl podivuhodnou reputaci mezi fanoušky a také tiskem, ačkoliv je slyšelo jenom pár lidí vzhledem k limitované a vyprodané edici debutového CD-R. Ačkoliv trvalo jeho dokončení pouhé 3 týdny, následující Arktogäa přišlo teprve po roce a americký label Malignant tehdy vyhrál závod o to, kdo ho vydá. Toto album je mnohem strukturovanější, matematický přístup ke skládání, a ke slovu přišly i nové elementy jako konkrétní hudba a etnicky zabarvené pasáže. Po tomto albu se Heid rozpadli, ale dědictví pokračuje v Survival Unit a LEAK, 2 projekty, které soustředily pozornost na to, co Heid představoval. Vhodným epitafem je to retrospektivní CD u Cold Meat Industry, label, který více než který druhý propagoval tento druh hudby.

Už jste znaveni z denních sraček a ustavičného poslechu oněch kolovrátkově se opakujících hlasů sužujících vaše bolestné tělo? Toto by mohlo posloužit jako inspirace k akci! Předkládá několik skladeb z živých vystoupení posledních let po Evropě spolu s pár novými z tohoto jara (2002). Spite nabízí skvostnou směsici orchestrální neřesti pro ty, kdož jsou omrzelí a rozhněvaní. Rytmické pulsování, trochu chutě klinické rozproudí strašidelnou atmosféru s obrannými zdmi těžkotonážních smyčců walls, které rozpálí obraz osobního pekla z představ. Tentokrát se spíše zkoumají vnitřní rozbroje, Spite ale za sebou elegantně nechává únavná válečná klišé. Tak co se může postavit této ohnivé, ztroskotané bestii, může se jeden ptát? No, ne každý... Tady je ale vokál, který vás postaví do pozoru, jeden z nejvybranějších v celém Švédsku: Carola!

Founded in 1990 by Tomas Pettersson (Ordo Rosarius Equilibrio) and Mikael Stavöstrand (Inanna, Archon Satani & Mitek), Archon Satani returns once more in it's original appearance to ultimately raise the tombstone and once and for all complete the premature burial of 1993.
With sinister loops, dismal ambience and disturbing as well as distorted atmospheres, "Of Gospels Lost and Forsaken" re-embarks on the long lost journey of the early Archon Satani, taking the listener on a disconcerting voyage through the darker realms of the human psyche.

Old tales most often derive from popular tradition, sometimes even seeming to force moral prejudice over poor uneducated citizens. The concept of the three piggies and the wolf can maybe be seen as the victory of goodness and how knowledge and cunning overcomes sheer brutality. However, disguises and cheats are the melody of today. Who is really the pig and who the wolf? Presenting a wide spectra in sound and form, Nod here corrodes every aspect of spastic intensity. Up for grabs are a schizoid, strange but well composed journey through bleak bitterness, but also a cold meeting with frantic technical limitpushing power ready to split your head. Spoken as well as screamed vocals are delightfully present, both male and female, making it as dramatic as Shakespeare. An ugly world without hope opening up, laughter takes it´s toll.

The last album by Arcana, from 2.5 years ago, had the ominous title "The Last Embrace". This, however, turned out to be untrue, since Peter Pettersson now returns with a new full-length record, "Inner Pale Sun". This follows after a couple of eventful years where focus had shifted towards his other project Sophia, a period that has been crowned by the recent birth of Pettersson's daughter. The absence seems not to have had any major effect on Arcana though; the strings flow as gently as ever, the rolling drums and the sonority of the chimes accentuate the various moods spelled out by the music, while the voice of the female companion take the compositions to even more celestial spheres. This albums stands as a magnificent proof that Arcana are back in a leading position among the host of bands on the romantic/ethereal fringe of the darkwave scene.
