There is nothing fun or pedestrian about dreams that are uncompromising to the point of reality.
The shaking notes that make up “Folding Space” were recorded by two people holed up in their whole respective imaginations of visions of loops, layers and pleading lyrics. It is stubborn but not ugly, nearly one hour of music set in studios buried by blizzards of the American Great Lakes region.
Cages is Nola Ranallo and David Bailey. They practiced, moved apart, relayed tapes through the mail, revised the entire damned thing, and then rejoined to capture every last seizure on this record. They sought sounds from the same dreams that give fools belief and colorfully punctuate the nights of the sanest.
It’s sometimes pretty (“Lost Lipids”) or crushing (“Psalm to Mother”; “If It Flies, It Dies”) or left hanged in the speakers (“Dying”). There are elements of dreamy ether and discomfort rather than the easy choruses and catchphrases of the most collected and consumed art form. And, then, you’ll find a song radiating another thing entirely. (sweetness? The Devil’s hand?)
Live, the duo transfers their forged and found music into a very personal presentation that soars above the casually talking show-goers, the poor man’s jazz bands, and the art house showboats. Patrons and fellow musicians are pulled in; sounds are pushed out but never apart.
“Folding Space” is a foot to the honest and hard road, which can quickly cut away the uncurious and reward the rest like the tapes listened to repeatedly in the fevers of your youth. Please mull and judge, and add to the tops or bottoms of the lists you think necessary. And know the visions backing this elaborate music were recorded and are performed for a primary reason: to exist freely.

The tracks on Daas have been carefully picked to form a provoking, haunting journey. What the tracks have in comon is a sense of nostalgic graininess. As with the music of Philip Jeck, The Caretaker or William Basinski, these tracks are full of degrading melodies and dusty ambience.
'Daas' is the previously unreleased opening track of the album, and feautures contributions by the great Richard Skelton. This track was made as a reaction to the piece 'Koploop'. 'Flotter', 'Koploop' and 'Grom' were previously available on small run self released 3" CDRs. Sold out for some time now, these tracks deserved a wider audience. These three long tracks also seem to come from the same galaxy, making perfect sense when put together. 'Onkruid' was a track previously released on 'A Room Forever', as an expensive and extremely limited 12" boxset, now brought to a wider audience.

The Wondrous Journey Through the Catacombs of Life je druhé CD album Musterion (Simon Kölle, Za Frümi), následující po velice kladně přijatém debutovém albu The Black Lodge (2005), vystavěné na komplexních a obskurních kompozičních technikách a hudební inovaci, a to vtahuje posluchače na úchvatně imaginativní a strašidelnou pouť, v níž se snoubí prvky dark ambientu, surrealismu a absurdity s pomocí rozvinutých strukturálních and teoretických úvah ohledně kompozice.
Příběh se týká kontroly mysli psychickými, elektronickými, sexuálními, farmaceutickými, subliminálními a jinými prostředky. Přesahuje až do absurdna a Simon AA Kölle přitom zcela jistě vymítal některé své soukromé démony a zkoumal hudební svět, kde pravidelné hudební metrum je bezvýznamné, kde rytmus skladby může být diktován bezdechou inspirací víc než filmem (jako v případě filmové hudby), nebo prostě jen aby vyhověl danému žánru. Přesto zde opět posouvá hranice žánru dark ambientní hudby a rozvíjí jej v art-music.
Vzhledem k dramatické povaze hudby, která klouže na pomezí hororu a atmosférické hudby, bylo jedinou možnou cestou začlenění organických i elektroakustických nástrojů. Improvizace, pokřivená cirkusová hudba, industriální partie a mnoho atmosférických momentů udává směr k vysoce symbolistickému albu, kde všechny elementy jsou součástí rozházené skládanky.

Limitovaná edice 500 kusů digipaků s extra kapsou a 12-stránkovým bookletem vyšla na halloween (svátek Všech svatých) 2009.
Vytištěno na velmi kvalitním grafickém kartónu Paper Couture Specials, BlancBeige, (320g/170g).
Artwork a design digipacku pro nás speciálně vytvořil grandiózní finský mág Niko Skorpio z labelu Some Place Else.

Emotions quietly stir and resonate in this deeply self-reflective album exploring the terrain between melodic electronic/ambient and modern minimalism. These six pieces utilize gentle melody, harmony and sonic tonality to poignantly reflect upon the passage of time, life lived, lives passed and a time of renewal: a sigh of the ages expressed in sound.
SIGH OF AGES is the result of extended periods of solitude and personal reflection for acclaimed composer Roach. Resulting directly from dynamic personal and cultural events, these pieces developed over time and in the moment. After 10 months of early morning and late night sonic meditations, Roach collected these various pieces and found they portrayed a poetic theme of sonic interpretations from this experience. Sculpted and refined in the artist's deft hands, the source material of life itself took on a voice that spoke from a deep emotional well of subtle contemplation. A sacred realm of inner reflection.
"The title came to me as I was creating the pieces," Roach recalls. "Titles always seem to emerge through the hours of working on the music combined with the place the sound takes me. What emerged was the sense of what it feels like to release a big sigh after a challenging time or a long run in life. A poignant sense of nostalgia and longing, breathing a collective sigh of release which carries forth into psychological and spiritual space. That is where the music and eventually the title grew from."
SIGH OF AGES taps into a lineage of signpost releases starting with the '80s melodic era of STRUCTURES FROM SILENCE AND QUIET MUSIC up through the textural tour de force of 2003's MYSTIC CHORDS & SACRED SPACES and 2009's DYNAMIC STILLNESS. For this journey, Roach drew on his essential collection of beloved analog synthesizers including a classic 40-year-old Arp String Ensemble, a historic polyphonic synthesizer that breathes life into the track "Morning of Ages," swirling and rolling upon itself like the strong currents of a rushing mountain river. "The View from Here" unfolds in a stately motion on a majestic sequenced pulse with voluminous melodic synthesizer clouds unfolding along the horizon. This alchemy of sounds creates a deeply nuanced album filled with shadow and light, unique within the language of Roach's soundworlds.
While the passage of time and expansive breath is an ongoing theme for Roach, the reflections and perceptions expressed on SIGH OF AGES delves into a contrasted intimate space only accessed in times of solitude. Začátek roku 2002 ukázal další permutaci ambientu, která za sebou nechává všechny žánry a styly. Američan James Keller ze skupiny Wilt, který přešel od svých raně metalových počátků ke zkoumání zvukových koláží a konkrétní hudby, na svém třetím albu Amidst A Spacious Fabric experimentoval s podivnými přístroji a konceptuálními zvuky.
Nové, v pořadí čtvrté album Wilt: Radio 1940 (2CD, 122 minut) se v experimentálně-ambientním a alternativním duchu zaměřilo na atmosféru a náladu, na všechny možné zvuky a prostředky, jimiž je možno znovu vytvořit přesný koncept, který dostal název noise-ambient.
Devatenáct skladeb tohoto dvojalba bylo vytvořeno jako individuální kus pod vlivem literatury, architektury, designu a historie kolem roku 1940. Nejde ani o politické stanovisko nebo kulturní manifest, toto album je zaprášeným fotoalbem z této doby, proměněným ve zvuky jedním z dnešních mistrů zvukových experimentů.
Album představuje nový krok, kdy se mixují ambientní plochy s hlukovými a do nich jsou integrovány některé elektro-akustické elementy, jakož i prvky konkrétní hudby. Je čistě instrumentální a nevyužívá žádné samply. Zřetelný příklon k futuristickému manifestu dosvědčuje např. skladba Painting sound into futurism, jinde skupina čerpá ze znalosti spodních kulturních proudů (Social occult machine) a celkovou avantgardní náladu osvědčují Noise musique: metal assemblage #1 & 2.
Zatímco jejich předešlé album bylo na obou stranách Atlantiku označeno jako jeden z nejfajnovějších ambientních počinů roku 2001, toto album jde nyní a teď ještě mnohem dál unikajíc všem žánrům a horizontům.
Pokud sledujete pozorně fúze probíhající na ambientní scéně, oceníte toto dvojalbum jako přelomový počin, který zůstane zapsán v análech elektronické hudby jako novátorské dílo. Bude tomu pro skutečně neotřelé použití hlukových clusterů na ambientním pozadí, čímž se základní modus v používání složitých textur výrazně proměnil. Nejde vždy o lahodně znějící plochy, ale je v něm cosi, co vás bude vždycky přivádět zpět k poslechu skladeb jako je Sandman, Depression modern nebo Hour of the wolf.
Návrh dělal by Ben Didier. Master připravil známý C-Drík ve studiu Syrphe.
